The story behind the science, the faith, and the persistence that shaped a life — and a memoir.

About The Author

SALLY A.CAMPBEll

Sally A.Campbell is a scientist, educator, environmental consultant, and lifelong learner whose remarkable journey spans continents, careers, and decades of quiet determination. Raised in Wichita, Kansas, she developed an early passion for science under the guidance of a father who dreamed of physics and a grandfather who lived by discipline and hard work. She studied at Wellesley College, pursued graduate research at Harvard, and ultimately built an acclaimed career in atmospheric science — consulting for major corporations, testifying before regulatory bodies, and fighting for cleaner air across twenty-five industrial facilities nationwide.

A published researcher, professor, and entrepreneur, Sally co-founded a consulting practice alongside her second husband, Ken, bringing both scientific rigor and human compassion to environmental challenges across the United States, the Caribbean, and beyond. She is also a devoted mother, a choral singer, and a person of deep faith — one who has spent a lifetime reconciling science and spirituality with honesty and grace.

From Trials to Triumph is her memoir — a testimony to persistence, curiosity, and the quiet courage of a woman who never stopped moving forward.

FAQ’s

Answers to the questions readers ask most about Sally and her memoir.

What inspired you to write this memoir?
I have boxes filled with memories and stories — artifacts from decades of living. I wanted to revisit them, not just for myself, but for anyone who might find courage in knowing that challenges are worth facing and that a life built on persistence matters.
What is the central message of the book? +
That humanity is a precious thing, and so is every individual life. My guiding principle has always been simple: keep busy, keep learning, keep moving forward. Persistence — not brilliance — is often what determines whether we succeed.
Did you face resistance as a woman in science? +
Yes, from neighborhood boys who chased me out of my father's science club to professors who raised an eyebrow when I walked into advanced courses. But I was judged by my work, not my gender. My advice to young women today: don't fight for a seat at the table, do the work, and the table expands.
How did faith and science coexist in your life? +
They were never enemies to me. Faith gave me hope when reason fell silent. Reason gave me clarity when faith was blind. I built my own philosophy — one foot in the sanctuary, one in the laboratory — and I found that the two point toward the same truth: the duty to nurture life.
What do you hope readers take away from your story? +
Courage isn't fearlessness. It's taking a step that feels valuable even when it feels risky. I hope readers walk away believing that their trials are not dead ends — they are instruction. And that whatever comes next, they can build a life of resilience and love.
